LAUDERHILL, FL — At their annual Budget Retreat on May 18, 2017, the members of the Children’s Services Council (CSC) approved $72,112,182 million in funding for programs serving approximately 150,000 children and youth in Broward County. The process, begun in February as staff prepared recommendations for Council review, included estimating available revenue based on projected property values for the Fiscal Year that begins October 1, 2017 and ends September 30, 2018.

The range of programs funded includes Abuse and Neglect Prevention, Out-of-School Time, Youth Development, Delinquency Diversion, School Health, Health and Safety Special Needs Populations and Capacity Building, among many others. The full budget proposal reviewed by Council members is available on line at www.cscbroward.org/csc-budgetgoals. At their upcoming June 15 meeting, the Council will complete the budgetary process by allocating administrative funding for the CSC for Fiscal Year 17/18.

The Children’s Services Council of Broward County is an independent taxing authority which was established by a public referendum on September 5, 2000, and was reauthorized on November 4, 2014, which, through Public Act, Chapter 2000-461 of the laws of Florida, authorized the Council to levy up to 0.5 mills of property taxes. The role of the Council is to provide the leadership, advocacy and resources necessary to enhance children’s lives and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.
