LAUDERDALE LAKES, FL – The City of Lauderdale Lakes proudly honored internationally acclaimed reggae artist Tarrus Riley with an official proclamation recognizing his outstanding contributions to music, culture, and community service. The proclamation was presented during the 2026 Caribbean American Unity Fest, where Riley served as the event’s headlining performer.

Sponsored by the Lauderdale Lakes City Commission, the proclamation officially designated June 5, 2026, as “Tarrus Riley Day” within the City of Lauderdale Lakes.

Mayor Veronica Edwards Phillips presented the honor on behalf of the City Commission, recognizing Riley’s global impact as one of reggae music’s most influential voices and cultural ambassadors.

“Tarrus Riley’s music has inspired millions through messages of unity, empowerment, love, and cultural pride,” said Mayor Veronica Edwards Phillips. “His commitment to uplifting communities through his artistry and philanthropic efforts embodies the spirit of the Caribbean American Unity Fest and reflects values that resonate deeply within our community.”

The proclamation highlights Riley’s celebrated career, including acclaimed albums such as Challenges, Parables, Contagious, Mecoustic, and Love Situation, as well as internationally recognized hits including “She’s Royal,” “Stay With You,” and “Lion Paw.” The City also recognized his dedication to youth empowerment, education initiatives, charitable outreach, and his role in advancing the global appreciation of reggae music and Caribbean culture.

As the son of legendary reggae artist Jimmy Riley, Tarrus Riley has built an extraordinary legacy of his own, earning international recognition for his distinctive sound, powerful vocals, and socially conscious lyrics.

The proclamation further acknowledged Riley’s contributions to promoting Black consciousness, social awareness, and positive community values through music, while inspiring generations of listeners around the world.

The Caribbean American Unity Fest serves as one of the City of Lauderdale Lakes’ premier cultural celebrations, bringing together residents and visitors for an evening of music, food, culture, and community engagement. Riley’s appearance as headliner helped elevate the event’s mission of celebrating Caribbean heritage and strengthening cultural connections throughout South Florida.

Joining Mayor Veronica Edwards Phillips in recognizing Tarrus Riley were Vice Mayor Sharon Thomas, Commissioner Tycie Causwell, Commissioner Easton K. Harrison, and Commissioner Karlene Maxwell-Williams.
