JACKSONVILLE, FL — The Conference of Minority Transportation Officials (COMTO) Jacksonville Chapter held their Ninth annual Bowl-a-Thon on June 3, 2017, at Bowl America on Beach Boulevard. Approximately 60 people participated in the event, which supports COMTO’s general and scholarship funds. The chapter received over $8,000 in pledges and sponsorships for this year’s event.
A core mission of COMTO is to attract the best and brightest to the transportation industry. During the Bowl-A-Thon, two incoming college freshmen who plan to embark on transportation related majors were each awarded a $1,500 scholarship.
Former Florida State Senator and current Community Outreach Director for Congressman Al Lawson, Anthony “Tony” Hill, delivered the first bowling ball to kick off the event. As a longtime supporter, Hill addressed the attendees to stress the importance of COMTO as a conduit for com-munity growth and transportation advocacy.
The COMTO Jacksonville Chapter would like to thank our gracious sponsors. With their help, we raised funds to support our community pro-grams.
Also, a special thanks to Bowl-A-Thon Committee Co-chairs Sherri Barr and Chris Macklin, participants and the host of volunteers that supported this year’s Bowl- A-Thon.
