    Pandemic Update

*Cases have remained steady over the past week. Daily average for new cases is 65,000 infections.

*The B.1.1.7 coronavirus variant (UK variant) is now the predominant viral strain in the US. *B.1.1.7 is more easily spread than the original coronavirus.

*Florida has the highes number of confirmed B.1.1.7 cases (3510) in the US.

*Broward County has the highest number of confirmed B.1.1.7 variants in Florida.

Vaccine Update      *21% of Floridians have been fully vaccinated. 20% of Broward residents have received two doses.

*All Floridians 18 years and older are now eligible for vaccines.

*Floridians can pre-register for vaccination appointments at www.myvaccine.fl.gov.

*Individuals with frontline jobs such as teaching, or transportation, among others, will be given priority when registering online,

*Appointments can also be made separately with Publix, Walmart, Winn-Dixie, CVS and other entities offering the inoculations.

Vaccines are now available to every adult in Florida and the US, but the risk of infection and COVID-19 disease remain extremely high. Remaining vigilant against disease transmission is critical. Practice good COVID-19 control strategies:

*Observe social distancing guidelines (6 feet or more of separation from others).

*Practice good hand hygiene (wash hands frequently with soap and warm water, or use hand sanitizers).

*Wear a mask when out in public.

Avoid crowded indoor locations where possible.
