Important to know

New cases have stabilized – The number of daily new coronavirus cases diagnosed has been under 10,000 for the past seven days, indicating a stabilization in the number of positive cases. This is NOT an indication however, that the threat of infection has decreased. Continuing to practice social distancing and wearing masks will help to mitigate the threat of infection.

Deaths from COVID-19 infections are increasing – In epidemics and pandemics, death is often a lagging indicator. That is, the death rate increases weeks to months after the increase in cases, depending on the length of illness from fatal cases. After a surge in cases over the last few weeks, we are now witnessing an increase in deaths from ill-nesses. Advances in care have improved the prognosis for many who are being treated in hospital and so should mitigate the death rate over time.

Avoid the “Three Cs.” – To prevent an increase in COVID-19 disease clusters in the community, the following measures are recommended:

  1. Avoid closed spaces with poor ventilation
  2. Avoid crowded places with many people nearby
  3. Avoid close-contact settings – such as close-range conversations
