She-Said: Don, I’m not a racist “MAGA” Hat-Wearing bigot! I do agree with the voices that are against teaching “The Critical Race Theory”. It has no place in sculpting young minds! The U.S.A. is the greatest, most powerful country in the world. We arguably have the most successful democratic society in mankind’s history.
This is why I don’t see merit in polluting young minds about the scabs the country had during its growth. The other great empires in world history had slavery. They all marginalized certain segments of the population that they deemed unworthy. The mistakes the U.S. made in its development were not enough to tarnish our success. There is nothing to be gained by illustrating America as a hateful, demonic country!
He Said: Wow Sarah, after reading that rant let me tell you to put down that glass of Manischewitz. A sober person could not posit an argument that we should hide any misdeeds by the country. This is not Communist Russia, Cuba, or some “Banana Republic”.
It would be a disservice to let those young minds come to fruition about their country without all the FACTS. Like you, I love the U.S.A. for all the progressive strides that have been made. I love it even more for acknowledging the mistakes and flaws. I am proud that the “Founding Fathers” drafted the best constitution in world history. It allows for the flexibility of the state to recognize the scabs and heal them.
That constitution has been the model for over 200 other countries. That is a strong argument for the substance of America. The paradigm allowed the change to allow women to vote. It was flexible enough to abolish slavery. This is just a shortlist of the band-aids the “Founding Fathers” wove into the Constitution to address the growing pains.
A centerpiece to the Constitution was the axle of freedom of speech. That was emphasized with the 1st amendment to the constitution. The USA Today reports of multiple states banning books by Black authors. My guess is that the founders are so mad they are spinning in their graves now! Readers “Stay Woke” and don’t let the country shift to a delusional version of history on your watch!
