The arrival of Mariel Cuban refugees in 1980 on the shores of Florida, were extended greetings from long unseen family members as well as rejoicing Americans. Florida’s powerful politician worked tirelessly to ensure Cuban refugees were granted special immigrant status. Subsequently, the government assistance program was transformed from a mere handout of cheese and powdered milk to Cubans to an entitlement program named, Aid to Cuban Immigrants.

This program granted immediate access to welfare, food stamps and Medicare. The budget for these social programs jumped from a mere $1 million allocation to nearly $680 million annually. None of these social programs were rejected then or now.

Cubans should know there’s a big difference between Socialism and social programs. And why would anyone want to be governed by Trump again, a lying and deceitful would-be dictator.

Remember, Castro was a dictator and the people’s nemesis. Trump’s ineptitude as president has resulted in over 16 million COVID-19 infections and the death total has surpassed 300K. His reign as a nemesis for America has ended.

Just maybe a civics class is needed to enlighten voters that social programs in America are funded using taxpayers’ dollars. And don’t dare forget our beloved military, public schools, police, postal service, etc. Therefore, if President Elect Joe Biden’s support for these programs makes him a socialist, then every President since Washington was a socialist.
