As the official advocacy organization for Broward County’s esteemed magnet program Dillard Center for the Arts (DCA), the Dillard Center for the Arts Foundation (DART) is hosting their 2nd annual Christopher Dorsey Jazz Scholarship Fundraising event at ArtServe in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, April 14 from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.

The fundraiser is one of the key initiatives sponsored by DART in their role, providing a voice and vision for the Dillard Center for the Arts and its students. Through this annual event, DART raises crucial funds for scholarships to benefit jazz students in their post-secondary pursuits. This evening will feature live music, libations, food, and a silent auction, and is focused on the continued support of DCA graduates who in many circumstances need financial assistance in their efforts to attend colleges and postsecondary programs to pursue both their artistic talents and academic goals.

The fundraiser and scholarship pay homage to the legendary Director of Jazz and Contemporary Music Studies, Christopher Dorsey who retired in 2022, but who’s legacy continues to inspire the direction and high expectations of the nationally recognized program. Dorsey assumed leadership of the program in 2004 and developed the jazz program into one of the premier high school jazz programs in the country. Under his guidance, the initial jazz band evolved into 3 critically acclaimed bands with many of his students accepted to the most prestigious colleges, universities, and conservatories in the country.

With the high quality of talent being incubated at DCA, this fundraiser and the generosity of attending donors and sponsors affords graduates the opportunity to receive assistance through the funds raised during this evening of great music and a student-focused mission.

In preparing for his year’s event, Kyle Harris, President of DART noted, “We continue to be excited about our work on behalf of the many talented young people at the Dillard Center for the Arts in the areas of dance, music, theater, and the visual arts.  We are grateful to the sponsors and patrons who support DART and DCA, not only at this annual fundraiser, but throughout the year.”

Tickets for this event are $75.00 and can be purchased online at dca.ludus.com or by calling the DCA office at 754-322-0838.  To support DART and their continued advocacy for the students and programs of DCA, please visit the DART website at www.supportdart.org
