    Ohio Black Media Collective report

     (TOLEDO, OH) — “Dr. . Crystal Ellis was the first African American Superintendent of Toledo Public Schools and during his tenure, he set high standards and expectations for students and staff members. He was a mentor and a friend to many,” said the TPS BOE and Superintendent Romules Durant in a statement.

    Dr Ellis, who died at age 91, was the most respected man in Toledo. Civic leaders and educators expressed the many condolences to the Eliss family who were with him in his last hours on Monday, April 22, 2024. “” Our hearts and prayers are with his family.”

    “Dr. Ellis saw the potential in every student and worked to help them become someone others liked and respected.”

    “He will be truly missed, but his legend will live on across our district as he was loved and revered by all who knew him.”

    His wake was held on Friday, May3, 2042 from 4 to 6 p.m. Funeral services will be held at St Paul AME Zion Church on Saturday, May 4th at 12 noon. Arrangements by the House of Day Funeral Home in Toledo, Ohio.
