“Ear Poison”

“And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die;” (Genesis 3:4)

Existing in the air along with the Covid 19 virus is another virus. It is not biological in nature nor unknown in origin and yet it is just as deadly as the Coronavirus.  Instead of destroying the body, this disease annihilates the ability to think logically.

While anyone can be a vector for ear poison, the most venomous holders of this sickness usually are those who have a high public profile or strong notoriety. And what they spew out is usually filled with ill will and malice.

We hear it coming from the world of sports and entertainment where rivals are not content with defeating rivals on the field of play but believe it necessary to diminish abilities and slander personal reputations.  The most recent example of this particular type of spoken malice in sports can be found in The Last Dance with Michael Jordan.

Too, there are endless examples of this maliciousness involving rap artists.  It seems like everybody has a “beef” with everybody else.  Me, I’d just relax and enjoy my money.

Everywhere we look and listen, we see and hear this destructive influence.  But it is in politics we hear the worst contamination.  And President Trump is by far the most malignant of the infectors.  Not only because of what he says but for the influence his words have on the nation and the world.

Examples are his encouraging those who follow him to break laws by an active disregard of pandemic guidelines for safety. To be willing to threaten government officials who disagree with him and to make his re-election a bigger priority than the well-being of their families.

Why would he encourage people to disregard the advice of medical experts and take medicine that is not only proven to be ineffective but dangerous  Or encourage them to go watch sporting events at stadiums when social distancing is impossible to accomplish. Or attend church services in as great numbers when it has been proven that large church gatherings incubated Covid 19 infection clusters. Leading to a spreading of the virus by those who attended service.

Yet despite the verbal garbage offered up by President Trump, when it comes to church services, it is church leadership responsible for types of services we hold.  It is as if we believe that the Holy Spirit is present only if large numbers of believers are present.

The Scripture is clear that large numbers in a worship service are not required for the LORD to be in the room. Sincere worship and honest praise are the requirements for the presence of God.

Nor are we breaking any Biblical Law by having small services. The Word says “do not forsake assembling together,” but it says nothing about number that assemble.

Even more important, why would we be listening to someone who has never practiced our faith tell us about we are and are not supposed to be about as churches?  Do we not understand that President Trump is not a Bible scholar or a theologian or a doctor or a scientist or an intellectual of any standing?  Why people listen to him when he speaks of the Covid 19 pandemic is beyond my understanding.

So what is he?  I believe him to be part of the reason God has allowed this plague to visit the world.  We have been believing in ourselves more that we are believing in Him.  God is showing us that no matter how long man’s achievements seem to be are or how vast man’s wealth, there is so much more beyond our reach.

This ear poison we listen to is killing us in every sense of the word.  Just think about it.  Please.
