With a heavy heart, we acknowledge the passing of an extraordinary alumna and public servant, Betty Holzendorf. Her passing marks the end of an era, leaving an indelible void in politics and advocacy. Holzendorf’s extensive list of accomplishments and affiliations reflects a life dedicated to improving her community and the state of Florida.
Betty Holzendorf’s commitment to legislative excellence was not only seen in her roles in the Florida House and Senate but also her affiliations with esteemed organizations such as the National Conference of State Legislatures, the National Conference of Black State Legislators, and the Jacksonville Conference of Black Elected Officials. Her active involvement in these organizations showcases her tireless efforts to stay informed and engaged on issues crucial to the well-being of our community and the nation.
As a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, a life member of the National Council of Negro Women, and a founder of the Northside Civic Association, Betty Holzendorf embodied the principles of service, sisterhood, and community development. Her leadership extended to the business community, where she was a Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce member and the Northside Businessmen’s Club member.
Holzendorf’s commitment to civil rights and social justice was further evident through her involvement with the NAACP, emphasizing her dedication to advancing equality and opportunity for all.

Her accomplishments, both in the political arena and through her numerous affiliations, exemplify the spirit of service and leadership that we strive to instill in our students.
