Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated’s Premier Florida Chapter in Fort Lauderdale, Delta Eta Zeta, received approval from the City of Fort Lauderdale to participate in its Adopt-A-Street program.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on Saturday, March 11th, at the corner of NW 18th Avenue and NW 5th Street, beside the former home of one of our charter members, Marjorie A. Davis. Special guests in attendance were Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Pamela Beasley-Pittman, who delivered congratulatory remarks, former Florida State Senator Chris Smith, who gave a brief testimonial of the area and the involvement of the chapter members, and Ruben Nesbitt, President of the Dorsey-Riverbend Civic Association.

Honoring the seven dynamic ladies who chartered Delta Eta Zeta on February 18, 1950, the ladies of Delta Eta Zeta adopted NW 17th and NW 18th Avenue encompassing NW 4th Street, NW 5th Street (Marjorie A. Davis Street) and NW 6th Street. The streets were specially selected due to being a part of the Historic Dorsey-Riverbend community, where a few of the Charter Members formerly resided and birthed the vision of our dynamic chapter.

Following the Ribbon Cutting, the ladies of Delta Eta Zeta grabbed gloves, garbage bags, and trash pickup sticks in preparation to clean the streets alongside members of the Historic Dorsey-Riverbend Civic Association, residents, and volunteers.

In step with its Charter Members, this year Delta Eta Zeta celebrates 73 years of service in Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding community.
