Submitted by Mary Smith

The Rattler spirit is in high gear as The Florida A&M University Broward County Alumni prepare to host its 50th Chapter Anniversary on March 9, 2013, 10:30 a.m. at the Urban League of Broward County Building, 560 NW 27 Ave., Fort Lauderdale, Fla.

This year, the theme is aligned with the FAMU National Alumni Association’s theme of “Transitioning into a New Era with Unified Purpose”.

The chapter is actively seeking to increase its membership with various recruitment methods in hopes of reaching the over 3,000 graduates located here in Fort Lauderdale. “We encourage all FAMUans, friends of FAMU and the community to become a part of our FAMU family to support our university and assist our students with scholarship dollars to achieve their goal of attaining a college degree. A Stronger Alumni Association…  A Stronger University,” states Mary Smith, the chapter’s president.

The speaker will be Congressman Alcee Hastings who graduated from Florida A&M University’s School of Law, and who was a founding member of the Broward Alumni Chapter. Entertainment will be provided by the Dillard High School Chorus and musical selections provided by a past member of the Marching Band.

The chapter invites all to come out and participate in this momentous occasion. For more information call (954) 430-9760.
