Trustee/SGA President Bell addresses FAMU NAA Florida Region gathering.

Florida A&M University (FAMU) alumni recently converged in Jacksonville, Florida, for the Florida Region Convention.

Alumni representing chapters from across the state networked, strategized, raised resources, and got updates on the great things happening every day at FAMU.

Leaders from the University participated in sessions on admissions, financial assistance, recruitment, academics, and athletics.

Region Vice President William Youmans said more than 150 alumni registered for the conference and came to show their support for FAMU.

“We believe in supporting our university in fundraising, recruitment of students and alumni, image and governmental relations, and they are coming from all over the state,” said Youmans.

Engaging alumni in workshops on branding, parliamentary procedures, and other chapter-oriented trainings were also highlights of the conference. Youmans emphasized that “FAMU Day at the Capitol” during the upcoming legislative session is very important. “We want our alumni to advocate for FAMU and go to their respective representatives and senators and let them know what the University has meant to them.”

FAMU National Alumni Association President Curtis Johnson said the Florida Region meeting is important because it represents the home base for the University.

“Our base needs to be galvanized because of the proximity to the University and the number of Rattlers who live, work, and contribute to Florida’s economy,” said Johnson.  “There is only one FAMU and we must make sure that it lives on today, tomorrow, and forever.”

FAMU Day at the Capitol is April 13.

and contribute to Florida’s economy and forever.” tomorrow work “Our base needs to be galvanized because of the proximity to the University and the number of Rattlers who live ” said Johnson.  “There is only one FAMU and we must make sure that it lives on today
