“Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.” — Proverbs 31:11 (NIV)

This week we feature an interview with another “help-meet”. As the First Lady of her local church, she is engaged in the uplifting and enhancement of the vision given to her husband for their body of believers. This week we honor First Lady Jacqueline Matthews Waldon. She is the First Lady at Mt. Olivet SDA Church in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Westside Gazette (WG) interview with First Lady Jacqueline Waldon of Mt. Olivet SDA Church

WG: What is your life verse?

First Lady Waldon: My life verse is “Though I speak with tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as brass, or a tinkling cymbal.” (1 Corinthians 13) In other words, if I don’t have love in my heart, I am like just a bag of noise. This verse is special to me because there is so much sadness in the world; I want to be the one to bring real love and cheer to everyone I meet—Love and not noise.

WG: Do you remember your salvation moment?

First Lady Waldon: Yes. It came when I was in my first year of college in Huntsville, Alabama. It was a Friday night at a youth program. The youth were doing a skit on the coming of Jesus—some were ready for His return and some weren’t. I knew that I was the biggest sinner around and from that moment on I tried to live a Christian life. By the grace of God, I did a 180 degree turn that night.

WG: Is there a special move of God that you would like to see an increased evidence of in Broward County?

First Lady Waldon: Yes! I would love to see God pour out His blessings upon the homeless in Broward County. We are so wasteful at times and it would be nice if we all would allow God’s Spirit to use us to help the helpless in coming up with a plan to get them off of the streets and into the work field.

WG: What are the titles of your favorite Christian songs?

First Lady Waldon: I love “You Deserve The Glory” by Juanita Bynum.I love this song and the way my sister expresses it in song. Because she has a personal experience with God, she is able to sing from her heart and soul with conviction.

WG: Do you watch or listen to other pastors? (National or Local)

First Lady Waldon: I really like listening to Joyce Myers. She is not ashamed of the Gospel and therefore speaks from the heart and from experience. She speaks with boldness and conviction. I also like listening to T D Jakes for the same reasons.

WG: Family life— your spouse, children?

First Lady Waldon: My husband is Pastor Brent D. Waldon, Sr. We met while in college in Huntsville, Alabama. We were married in my hometown of Hammond, Louisiana in 1978. God has blessed us with four children.

WG: Secular Job?

First Lady Waldon: I have been working as a critical care registered nurse since 1988. I have always wanted to be a nurse. So, after being married and four children later, God granted me that desire to care for the sick.

WG: What are your personal interests/activities/goals?

First Lady Waldon: My primary interest is helping to mend the brokenhearted. My activities include Bible Study, singing, technology, and talking. My goal is to be and do as God instructs me.

WG: Please complete the following: Jesus is my ……….

First Lady Waldon: “Jesus is my STRENGTH within.”
