FORT LAUDERDALE, FL – The Florida Tropics ABA is set to make waves in South Florida as the region’s first professional basketball team, with plans underway to promote the team to local schools and youth programs. With a mission to engage the community and foster a love for the sport, the Tropics are ready to inspire the next generation of athletes.

     A Commitment to Local School

The Tropics, owned by Roy Smiley, are dedicated to creating strong ties with local educational institutions. This commitment includes organizing school visits where players will share their journeys in sports, emphasizing the values of teamwork, dedication, and hard work.

General Manager James Stone, a proud graduate of Dillard High School, is passionate about connecting with youth in the community. “We want to inspire students and show them that with dedication, they can achieve their dreams, whether in sports or life,” Stone stated.

    Engaging Youth Programs

To further their outreach, the Tropics plan to host free basketball clinics for local students, offering coaching from players and staff. These clinics aim to develop skills while promoting teamwork and sportsmanship among young athletes.

Additionally, the Tropics are partnering with the Broward County Educational Foundation, Smitty’s, and the YMCA to create sponsorship opportunities that benefit local sports teams and programs. The team is actively seeking more companies for sponsorship and partnerships through their nonprofit initiative, Tropics Aid, and their donation program.

    Special Promotions and Events

The Tropics will introduce special promotions, including discounted tickets for students and families, making it easier for them to attend games. School spirit nights will provide a platform for local schools to showcase their pride, with rewards for the school with the highest attendance.

Social media will also play a crucial role in engaging with the community. The Tropics plan to highlight local youth talent and encourage schools to participate in contests that promote the team.

     Building Lasting Connections

In addition to school assemblies and workshops on sportsmanship and health, the Tropics will arrange for players to attend events hosted by youth programs, providing inspiration and support to aspiring athletes.

“By connecting with local schools and youth programs, we aim to create a lasting relationship that benefits everyone involved,” said Smiley.

     Location and Ticket Information

The Florida Tropics will play their home games at Nova Southeastern University, creating an exciting venue for fans. As they prepare for their inaugural game on October 18th against the Tampa Fury, they are more than just a basketball team; they are a community partner dedicated to fostering a love for the sport and inspiring the youth of Broward County.
