Q & A: What Does Reverend Deal Say!

    ‘G. R. A. C. E. Spells Favor’

         Question: What is grace?

Answer: Grace is a part of God given to us when we do not deserve it. In other words grace is the unmerited favor bestowed on us. Grace is the confidence we have to live a successful Christian life. Grace is the power to assure our success in all that we do. The word “grace” is Greek meaning charis or charismatic, beauty, beautiful conduct. Then a magnificent thing happens. Under God’s guidance the Bible writers borrowed this word and clothed it with a new significance so that in the New Testament it means the forgiveness of sins is granted out of the Goodness of God.

So often, there are some misconceptions about grace that causes us not to benefit from its power. Many Christians fall into this misunderstanding and confusion that (a) grace permits us to continue to sin. We’re quick to say that ‘Jesus died for our sins’. Yes, Jesus died for our sins, but that’s not a welcome mat to sin continuously and knowingly. Why is it a struggle for all to live a sin-free life? Because we must partake with Jesus’ suffering before we enjoy His glory. Grace is that extra power we have to strive to live a holy life. (B) Many think that through grace God has lowered his standards. David said that He is the same God yesterday, today and forever. With grace and the Holy Spirit we can live and fulfill the standards of God’s law. Jesus did not come to destroy the Law but to fulfill the law.

But it is contingent upon us to provide an effort to live to please God. There are 66 Books in the Bible that will give you examples on having the hope to live a Godly life. May you pray and meditate that the understanding of Grace will change your spiritual life.
