MIAMI, FL – The future looked bright as more than 90 “at-promise” girls came together for a day dedicated to unlocking their potential and building lifelong confidence. Girl Power Rocks (GPR) successfully hosted its “It Takes a Village” Girls Summit at the Overtown Performing Arts Center in Miami, providing an immersive day of leadership, mentorship and empowerment designed to help participants become confident leaders and changemakers.
The day-long event featured interactive leadership experiences, presentations by accomplished women leaders, participant testimonials, and a special recognition ceremony. True to its theme, the summit demonstrated the impact of community mentorship through partnerships with law enforcement, community leaders and local organizations.
Major Keandra Simmons and officers from the City of Miami Police Department attended to support the youth and reinforce the importance of community support. Additionally, Sister Circle Mentors, members of the Iota Pi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., energized the event by mentoring participants during interactive “Sisterhood Collection” breakout sessions. During the sessions, participants designed custom poster boards and creative projects while building teamwork, strengthening their sense of sisterhood, and developing entrepreneurial and leadership skills. The hands-on experience encouraged creativity, collaboration, and confidence, reinforcing the value of supporting one another while bringing their ideas to life.
The summit concluded on a high note with a back-to-school backpack shopping experience in partnership with Kinnect, helping bridge resource gaps and ensuring every girl left with the supplies needed to begin the school year with confidence.
“Seeing our community rally around these incredible girls, from law enforcement and dedicated sorority sisters to our passionate mentors, staff and partners, was nothing short of transformative,” said Thema Campbell, President and CEO of Girl Power Rocks. “The summit proved once again that when we invest in our youth and surround them with support, belief, and practical resources, there is no limit to what they can achieve,” added LaShawna Stanley, mentor coordinator and event coordinator for the “It Takes a Village” Summit at GPR.
