FORT LAUDERDALE, FL — Girls in Christ, Inc. (GIC), is a faith-based nonprofit dedicated to growing girls ages 10-18 in Confidence, Christ and Community. GIC proudly announces its move into a new program space alongside the award of two major grants totaling $40,000 from the Southern Black Girls & Women’s Consortium and a Capacity Building Grant from Children’s Services. This milestone marks a powerful season of growth for GIC’s Sunflower Garden, where girls are cultivated, supported, and empowered to flourish.
Founded on faith, mentorship, and community, Girls in Christ, Inc. serves girls by providing safe spaces, bible studies and leadership development rooted in Christian values. The opening of GIC’s new program space, supported by grant funding, represents a significant step forward in expanding its reach and deepening its impact.
The new program space, located in the heart of Fort Lauderdale, will serve as a dedicated home for GIC’s programming, offering a safe and nurturing environment where girls can learn, grow, and connect. Designed to support mentoring sessions, workshops, leadership development, and community gatherings, the space allows GIC to increase capacity and enhance program quality, ensuring every Sunflower has room to grow. Like sunflowers turning toward the light, this moment reflects growth and resilience for the girls served.
Girls in Christ, Inc. has received two grants totaling $40,000 from the Southern Black Girls & Women’s Consortium (SBGWC) as well as a Capacity Building Grant from Children’s Services that will strengthen both operations and programming.
The capacity building grant will support long-term organizational sustainability through the development of a Revenue Diversification Plan, including an organizational assessment and strategic roadmap. The General Operating Grant from SGBWC will support Camp Sunshine 2027, GIC’s signature summer experience and the Program Space for 2026, ensuring continued access to a safe and inspiring environment. These investments directly benefit the Sunflowers served by Girls in Christ, Inc., expanding access to mentorship, faith-based programming, and leadership development.
“Every Sunflower deserves space to grow toward the light,” said Yolanda Nails, mother of two graduated Sunflowers and current Girls In Christ, Inc., Board Member. “This new program space and the support from the Southern Black Girls & Women’s Consortium and the Capacity
Building Grant from Children’s Services, allow the Sunflower Garden to expand, creating more opportunities for girls to feel seen, supported, and empowered for the future, just as my daughters have been,”
