Dorothy Singleton, 103, passed recently on April 4, 2016. Singleton, a faithful member of First Baptist Church Piney Grove, won Westside Gazette’s Newspaper 2015 Greatest Moms in the World contest with another centurion Ms. Luereen Flournoy. She was loved by her family, fellow church members and her community.

Born Sept. 4, 1912 in Baker County, Ga., Singleton grew up in Newton, Ga. She later married Hossie Singleton and the couple had two daughters. The family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. in 1942. Singleton’s husband and children all preceded her in death.

As a member of First Baptist Piney Grove, Singleton served on the First Baptist Adult Usher Board for 70 years and held the office of Secretary of the Sunshine Club.

She leaves to mourn two sisters: Evelyn Jones and Isabelle Robinson (Robert); grand-daughter: Yasmin Carter; granddaughter-in-law Natalie Singleton; two grandsons: Norman (Margo) and Anthony (Vonda) Carter; and a host of other relatives and friends.
