Happy Independence Day!

By Rachel Johnson

Independence Day is 4th of July as we know it.

Starts with family, food, fun, fireworks and ends in fatalities, too.

Experience and expectations tell truths unimaginable of the disbelief and inaction of this disclaimer of the Declaration of Independence, “whenever any form of Government becomes destructive of these Ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government”.

And I digress and reflect your attention to the public housing projects that are being privatized right under our noses. But yet the catapulting ending of the neglected as it may seem, HUD has no fury or recollection as demonstrated in the reward and ward (all at the same time) of public housing properties to these Housing Authorities, if you know what I mean.

No? You do not know what I mean?

Well, let me tell you what I think and observe. You don’t have to agree, but from where I sit I can see so much neglect at the hands of some of these Housing Authority agencies and Directors selected strategically to administer the HUD Housing programs and sites of mostly children and families of low-income status.

Billions of HUD dollars are granted, gifted and incentivized to these known criminals, supposedly reassuring independence and economical convenings to a people living in and of a concentration encampment.

Instead, independence is disguised in the form of program after program, activity after activity and packaged as family self-sufficiency to the very few that may hold prosperity and change of environments so close and near.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal”; wait for it…”Life, Liberty, and Pursuit of happiness” is for goal diggers, for the birds and individually at the existence of the many consistent trials and tribulations… Again I digress and reflect on the word ‘free’, symbolic to many of the discriminations to bear from generations to generations.

Cursed when spoken!

Independence comes to the swift but never sorrowful, full of aspirations and plans to their belief to follow each and every day.

Privatization of public housing brings on a future of the unknown not tested but in demonstration by the dominant characters to a system so secure.

A people in fear just stepping at every demand and deceit in a trance under the enemy in charge.

A watchful eye and the public conscience is indeed the way to an eternity of relationships built, dreams fulfilled, communities winning or the latter if in FEAR .

People living in low income housing must find a way to set victimization aside and in their own way and from different perspectives of unity and happiness long tried, unravel the convictions and maneuver in all directions upward and simplified to an equation that matters most to elevating the public and people living in public housing on a journey to come to the realization that their existence matters one step at a time in sequential order of concerns and processes of the commanders in charge.

That be you but understanding the detriments of the selected not yielding to the desires of your dreams of becoming independent of public services and the amenities of the system.  A watchful eye and the public conscience is indeed the way to an eternity of relationships built, dreams fulfilled, communities winning or the latter, if in FEAR.

Independence cannot stand to be sacrificed, and tracking must attract fans of decency.  These are the faces of HUD Housing in my opinion, only creatively suggested.

Have a safe and Happy Independence (4th of July) to You All!
