Hastings recognizes National Voter Registration Day

Washington, DC— Recently, Congressman Alcee L. Hastings (D-Miramar) made the following statement in recognition of National Voter Registration Day:
“I, along with many others in Florida and across the nation, fought long and hard for the right to vote. While great strides have been made to improve our elections in recent years, continued efforts to suppress the rights of voters not only threatens our democracy, but also the integrity of our electoral process. It is time for this to change. We cannot sit idly by and allow the clock to turn back on 40 years of progress.
“As we recognize National Voter Registration Day, it is imperative that we work together to strengthen our nation’s democracy and ensure that the voting rights of all Americans are protected.”
Congressman Alcee L. Hastings serves as Senior Member of the House Rules Committee, Ranking Democratic Member of the U.S. Helsinki Commission, and Democratic Chairman of the Florida Delegation.
