The men’s portion of the outdoor track & field championships have concluded. It was a great day for HBCU athletes.
Of the four athletes who competed for national titles, three finished in the top 7 of their respective events.
Arkansas-Pine Bluff’s Caleb Snowden fared the best out of the field, placing third in the high jump after measuring at 2.23 meters.
Entering as the first HBCU men’s athlete to qualify for the high jump final since 2015, Snowden is the only Black College athlete to finish in the top three in any event final.
In addition, he now becomes the first to finish in the top 3 in over a decade.
The only MEAC competitor to advance to an event final, Howard’s Samuel Bennett, came in sixth in the 110m hurdles, crossing the finish line at 13.45 seconds.
Alabama State’s Jamarion Stubbs placed seventh in the 200m with a 20.59 second time.
Stubbs becomes the first SWAC men’s athlete to make it to the 200m final since 2012.
Rounding out the field is Maryland Eastern Shore’s Malachi Aiken, who placed 15th in the triple jump after measuring 15.66m.
