Hurricane Center Eyes Atlantic Storms

The News Service of Florida

The National Hurricane Center on Friday morning was watching four weather systems in the Atlantic Ocean, with one expected to bring rain to South Florida this weekend. A storm listed as Disturbance 4 was just north of Hispaniola and is expected to sweep across Florida as it moves toward the western Gulf of Mexico next week. Three other disturbances, all with better chances of growing into stronger systems over the next three days, were between the Lesser Antilles and the Cabo Verde Islands off Africa. A system of showers and thunderstorms listed as Disturbance 1, which was a few hundred miles west of Cabo Verde Islands, has the best chance of growing over the next week into a larger named system. The National Hurricane Center gave the system a 50 percent chance of formation this weekend and 70 percent over the next week.
