Herbert C. Jacobs, gospel musician extraordinaire, will be the featured guest artist at the Mount Hermon AME Church Voices of Praise, “SONGFEST 2013: “In The Spirit of Praise” on Aug. 24, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the church.

Jacobs, currently the Minister of Music at the Springhill Missionary Baptist church in Tampa, began playing for churches at the age of 13. A graduate of Forest High School, he graduated from the University of South Florida in 1975. After graduation, Mr. Jacobs played with the Tampa Mass Choir which was a part of the Gospel Music Workshop of America founded by the late Rev. James Cleveland from 1978-1985. While with the Gospel Music Workshop, Herb was the National Department Chairman for Choir Decorum and Membership and staff instructor for four years for the National Convention.

Herb served as the Minister of Music for the nationally recognized Florida Mass Choir from 1978 – 1996. While working with the Florida Mass Choir, Jacobs produced a number of albums including, “Live in Miami”, “Now I Can See”, “Higher Hope” and “Let the Holy Ghost Lead You”.

These albums are a testament to Jacobs’ skill, talent and expertise in the gospel music arena. His strengths lie in his capacity for strengthening choir development, administration and organization.

Mr. Jacobs also contributed to the production of “A Symphony Unto God” which was performed by the Florida Mass Choir at the Bob Carr Auditorium in Orlando and the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater. These performances included a 75 piece orchestra that performed the music of the Florida Mass Choir.

Mr. Jacobs worked with Florida Mass Choir in the production of IILet the People Rejoice”, a musical play performed at the Falk Theatre at the University of Tampa, Gusman Hall in Miami, Broward Community College in Fort Lauderdale, Gainesville High School auditorium, Jacksonville Auditorium in Jacksonville and on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee. Herb performed with the Florida Mass Choir at the legendary Kennedy Center in Washington, DC for their performing arts series.

Jacobs toured for 21 days with national recording artists of the Georgia Mass Choir in 2009, under the direction of Rev. Milton Bingham. The tour included performances in Madrid and Barcelona, Spain, the Canary Islands and other cities.

The public is invited to come, be Blessed and filled with the Spirit of Praise. For additional information contact Carolyn Turnley at (954)980-6556; Barbara Scruggs at (954) 257-8019 or Barbara Hagan at (954) 383-0780.
