He said: Nicole I know you recognized C.N.N. host Don Lemon and that is his partner. I got a personal email from one of our readers, Tyson. He asked me a question I could not answer easily. Can you help give a better understanding of the definition of Queer?
She said: Wow Don, you shock me with what you don’t know sometimes. Are you sure you went to Cal or were you just there for the great recreational pharmaceutical toys?
Here is the history lesson for you, Tyson and the readers. The word Queer in the early 1900s till around the 1970 was used as an insult for Gay men. It evolved with the sexual revolution to gradually become a term that is properly defined by people that don’t want to be known as heterosexual or cisgender [going by their genetic sex base]. Don, this movement picked up the pace with the publishing of several seminal articles. Queer people, particularly queer people of color, began to reclaim Queer in response to a perceived shift in the gay community toward a more liberal conservatism view. Andrew Sullivan’s1989 piece in The New Republic, titled Here Comes the Groom: The Conservative Case for Gay Marriage.
He said: That was a great detailed explanation. Nicole, for you and the readers, when we next revisit this topic I want cogent thoughts on the Rainbow/Pride need to broadcast what you do in your bedroom.
Most people don’t give a rip on how you have sex. It is as important as my not liking collard greens [surprise all Black people don’t like them [l.o.l].
