Can you explain to me why President Trump terminated a 4th Inspector General? A.B.C. news reported that the most recent ouster by the Trump administration is Steve Linick, who was acting as the State Department inspector general. The announcement drew fire from top Democrats and some Republicans. Linick had opened an investigation into whether Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had misused staff for personal errands, including dog walking and picking up dry cleaning, and was also investigating Trump’s use of emergency authority to sup-ply weapons to Saudi Arabia in 2019.

Nicole, please unravel this for your obtuse pal? Presidents have fired in the past. Johnson did, Reagan, Carter, Bush and even Obama.  None had the inventory of this current President.  Do you think he may have taken that reality show jargon “YOUR FIRED!” too far?  The law requires him to give Congress 30 days before termination. This is a “guardrail” that he is not following.

     She Said: You aren’t obtuse–or crazy! We ALL need to suspend our disbelief that an American president would blow through every norm and law that has kept democracy afloat. THIS IS REALLY HAPPENING.

Trump is running the country into the ground, just as he ran most of his businesses into the ground. (So much “winning”!) His behavior in office was presaged by his choice of theme song at the Inaugural Ball. Do you remember it? It was the old Frank Sinatra standard, “I Did It My Way.” Anyone who doesn’t agree with his way can take a hike, with or without a foot in their backside!

This deranged and paranoid old fool has deluded himself into thinking “he alone” can do it all. He believes he knows medicine better than our doctors, knows military strategy better than our generals, knows diplomacy better than career diplomats. Backed by a political party determined to shrink government, it’s no wonder he tosses out so many officials.

Just remember this in November: if Trump hadn’t obliterated the very agencies whose mission was a pandemic response, you would be enjoying your summer instead of living THIS nightmare.
