Henry and Leila Lumpkins of Lauderhill celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on March 19, 2016 in Tamarac.

The couple met in 1962 at the Baptist Youth Center while attending Tennessee State University in Nashville.

This union produced three children, eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

The celebration was attended by friends, neighbors, church and sorority members, family and other groups of the couple’s affiliations.

The couple’s children Tamela Starks, Adrian Lumpkins and Henry Lumpkins IV presented a very entertaining program with granddaughter, Danielle Lumpkins singing, dedicating a beautiful song to her grand-parents. The couple’s daughter-in-law, Aniva Lumpkins, hand-led many of the details. Barbara Lumpkins read an original poem which depicted the couple.  Memories and appreciations were given by Eddie Cousin, nephew; Erica Fears, cousin and great niece of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Cornelius Fears, nephew was instrumental in acquiring the card from President and Mrs. Obama which was read.

A long-time friend, Margaret Roseburr, took them down memory lane of the travels the family made.

The couple was entertained by students from Kuumba Dance Academy performing moves from the ‘60s through the present. The directors of the academy are Kandyss Mc-Aden and Jamila Jones.

The renewing of vows was conducted by Rev. Anthony Burrell of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Pompano Beach, Fla. Joel Lumpkins and Claudia Morgan stood with couple as best man and matron of honor. The couple attributes the suc-cess of their marriage to Al-mighty God who has sustained them.

The beautiful decorations for the occasion were done by Dedrie Registe and Dina Reid and delicious food was catered by Chef Pat’s.
