It was a beautiful Sunday afternoon for South Florida youth to participate in local National Basketball Association(NBA) Detroit Pistons’  star Brandon Knight’s 3rd Annual Skills Clinic.  This year about 200 young athletes between the ages of 7-17 attended. It was a great experience because it gave these student/athletes an insight on the hard work and constant drills you must practice daily in order to become a professional basketball player.

The event was hosted at Pine Crest High School for the second consecutive year. Two gymnasiums were used during this clinic.

In one gym, students that were in elementary school had their own skills session and in the other gym middle and high school students had their workout session.

The purpose of the skills clinic was to provide young upcoming athletes with some of the necessary drills to succeed if they choose a career in playing basketball.

“Hard work and staying consistent and persistent in your effort to improve everyday is what it takes to succeed,” Knight said.

The drills consisted of ball handling, defense, shooting, passing, and one-on-one maneuvers.

This two-day skill clinic was sponsored by Adidas, Aquahydrate, the Detroit Pistons, Little Caesars, Subway, Zico, and Duece. During the last hour of this skill clinic, Brandon Knight and a few other special guests teamed up in a 5-on-5 scrimmage against all the children who participated in the clinic.  All children were split up and put on teams of five randomly.

This was a great opportunity for all athletes to practice and put into practice new skills that they were taught during their earlier workout sessions.

All participants in this camp were motivated and hungry to improve their weaknesses and skills on the court.
