    A beloved local clergyman has retired from full pulpit ministry.

    The Rev. Dr. Robert Shaw, pastor of New Bethel AME Church, Goulds, Florida has retired from the AME Church after serving thirty-eight years.

    He is well known in the community as a Pastor and a retired food inspector for the State of Florida, Division of Hotel and Restaurant after thirty years.

    A native of Quincy Florida and a graduate from FAMU in Tallahassee, Florida. He was called to preach out of Mount Hermon AME Church, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

    In the process of working and pasturing churches he secured his theological training from Miami Christian College, Trinity Evangelical University and Jacksonville Theological Seminary.

    His first appointment was Allen Chapel AME Church Miami, FL., there he immediately started a building project, secured plans and before ground breaking, he was given an appointment to Mt. Zion AME Church Oakland Park, Fl. He served Allen Chapel for a year and a half.

    Mount Zion Oakland Park was also in need of a new facility and after eighteen years the new facility was completed and is now serving the community.

    After eighteen years in Oakland Park, Pastor Shaw given an appointment to New Bethel AME Church Goulds, Florida. This site had need of a Family Life Center, so the work was started and before completion Pastor Shaw reached the age of retirement.

    He served New Bethel for fourteen years.

    Pastor Shaw served each community with distinction and with a servant heart.

    His success he said was the help of God, his family support and great Christian in each community.

    He said what he misses are the clergy ministry, wonderful fellowship of the people and the community involvement.

    He stated that preaching is still in his heart.

    He now lives in Lauderhill with his family and associated with his home church Mount Hermon AME Church, Fort Lauderdale, FL.
