    Maria H. Arenas, a retired teacher and school administrator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools succumbs    

    Maria H. Arenas, a native Miamian, was born March 10, 1947 (Christian Hospital) and raised in “Overtown.” She  retired as a teacher and school administrator with Miami-Dade County Public Schools. A graduate of Miami Northwestern Senior High School, Class of 1965, she went on to  earn a B.S. in Speech and Drama from Florida Agricultural & Mechanical University; an M.S. in Secondary Education Curriculum from Nova University and was currently a candidate for an ED.d from Nova University in Educational /Organizational Leadership.

    Maria isthe wife of Dr. J.A. “Chico” Arenas, and mother of Patrice DeGraff-Arenas (John DeGraff), Emilio Arenas, and Ascellia M. Arenas.  She is  the grandmother of five boys:  Ahman Arenas, Jaquim Arenas, Khalif Arenas, Rahmir Napper, and Sultan Arenas. She leaves behind numerous relatives living in the US and abroad and was a trusted friend and confidante to many. Maria H. Arenas will be sorely missed.

    Maria departed on June 21, 2013 at 4:13 p.m. at Memorial West Hospital in Pembroke Pines, Fla.

    Wednesday, June 26, 2013 at 6 p.m., St., Philip Neri (Bunche Park), 15700 N.W. 20 Ave., Road, Opa Locka, Fla. (305) 624-6641.

        Repast — The Fountain of New Life, Miami Gardens Campus, 4601 N.W. 167 St. Miami Gardens, Fla.  (305) 622-3123.

    Funeral Service: Thursday, June 27, 2013 at 11 a.m. St. Maximilian Kolbe, 701 N. Hiatus Rd. Pembroke Pines, Fla.  (954) 432-0206.

    Internment: Dade Memorial Park 1301 N.W. 135 St., Miami, Fla. 33167.

    Flowers and arrangements will be displayed during the rosary and internment only.

    Final arrangements are entrusted to:  Roy Mizell & Kurtz Funeral Home. 1305 N.W. Sixth St. (Sistrunk Blvd) Fort Lauderdale, Fla. (954) 467-3426.
