Men of Destiny Community Outreach, Inc., honor ‘The Living Legends’ of Historical Provident Hospital

In celebration of Black History Month the community of South Florida is cordially invited to attend the “Living Legends Community Ecumenical Service” in honoring Broward County’s employees of the first and only Black Historical Provident Hospital, Fort Lauderdale, Fla. The late Dr. James F. Sistrunk was instrumental in founding Provident Hospital along with the late Dr. Von D. Mizell in 1938. Another Pioneer the late Dr. Calvin H. Shirley, also made a great contribution in providing opportunities for Blacks in Broward county in receiving medical care. These gentlemen provided medical services and created a conducive environment for citizens of the community to receive quality health services. The Living Legends Honorees will reflect on their memories and of its history during segregation, while serving as employees of Provident Hospital.

In attendance will be employees of local hospitals, community and organizations, leaders, clergy, citizens, youth, parents, and families will be in attendance for this memorable occasion. The event will commence on Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014 at 4 p.m., at the host church The Mount Olivet Seventh Day Adventist Church, 649 15th Way, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where Pastor Lucious Hall, serves are pastor.

Men of Destiny Community Outreach, Inc., Founder, Bishop Douglas Russell, Jr., and members of MODCI are keeping the dream alive in further enhancing the rich history of its community and building upon the foundation of great men and women, youth and the decedents of our forefathers for their outstanding contribution for equality. The theme: Where Do We Go From Here in 2014?
