Mike Olbel received the Nonprofit Leader of the Year award at the 211 Broward Nonprofit Awards
I was deeply honored to receive the Nonprofit Leader of the Year award at the 211 Broward Nonprofit Awards-an event that truly feels like the Oscars for our field.
Reflecting on the moment, I want to express my heartfelt thanks to 211 Broward, the selection committee, und the and the generous sponsors who made the day so special. Being recognized alongside such remarkable leaders—individuals devoted to service, impact, and transformation-is incredibly humbling.
I share this award with my entire team at Community Based Connections, Inc., as well as our board members, volunteers, and supporters. This recognition belongs to each of you; your passiondedication, and steadfast commitment to our mission .every day. Although our work is challenging, we consistently demonstrate that hope overcomes adversity and action speaks louder than words.
I also want to thank my family and friends for their un avering support through every challenge and triumph. Your belief in me fuels my determination, even during the toughest moments.
For me, the nonprofit sector is not about accolades or applause -it’s about making a real difference. It’s about changing lives, strengthening communities, and amplifying voices. Last Friday, I accepted this honor not just for myself, but on behalf of every individual we have served and all those whose lives we have yet to touch.
As I reflect on this journey, I am reminded that lasting change occurs when we come together, support one another, and challenge the status quo. I dedicate this award to every immigrant child with a dream, every advocate, and every dreamer around the world. Let us continue to break barriers, spark change, and turn the impossible into possible. This truly is the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Thank you, God. God is the greatest!
