January 23rd is Maternal Health Awareness Day. The day is dedicated to raising awareness of the maternal health crisis in the United States. Unfortunately, many patients in the United States are unable to access maternal healthcare due to various financial, staffing, and policy challenges. As a result, hospitals in both rural and urban areas are closing their labor and delivery units, making it difficult for patients to receive the care they need.

To address this issue, I am organizing a series of maternal health support groups titled “Mom’s In The Muck” (#MITK). These groups aim to educate, empower, and support women in rural areas to reduce maternal and infant mortality, improve birthing outcomes, and foster community. Our first session, which focuses on Mental Health and Perinatal Mood Disorders, will be held on February 21st at BRIDGES at Belle Glade. We welcome your support and ask you to share and post this flyer, register for the group via Zoom, or attend in person! Those who attend in person will receive special gifts along with refreshments.

It’s time to take back our voices and educate ourselves not only on our rights as citizens of the United States but also as birthing women. Come learn, grow, and build a community of support people to help you with your journey through motherhood.
