Submitted by Katharine McNair

Mount Hermon celebrates over 106 years of rich history The Mount Hermon A.M.E. Historical Museum will open doors Sunday, July 29, 2012 12 p.m., in the north wing of at 401 N.W. Seventh Terr. The museum chronicles the generations through three different structures that have literally sheltered the community from nature’s storms and the storms of life as well.
Historical items, images and writings will transport museum visitors through time as they learn how Mount Herman has been the back bone of gene-rations of locals and a leader in African American experience. Mount Hermon bravely open-ed her doors to host Broward County’s very first NAACP meeting by cover of night; at a time when those involved with NAACP were threatened with being torched and/or lynched.
The grand opening of the museum immediately follows the 10 a.m. service, the commu-nity is welcome to join us for the service.
Museum doors open at noon refreshments will be served, and Curators Katharine Mc-Nair and Beverly Warren will host school and civic group tours thereafter by appoint-ment.
