The Mount Hermon A.M.E. Church Historical Museum held a successful Grand Opening last Sunday. One hundred and six years of rich history is represented there to be shared with the entire community.

In addition to the ribbon cutting, the day was a time to honor Mount Hermon’s Pioneers.

Ceaniel Ford received a Pioneer Award.  Mrs. Ford joined Mount Hermon in 1929 under the leadership of The Late Rev. Mitchell Peter Chappelle. She remains faithful after 83 years of membership.

A Pioneer Award was also presented to Dorothy Streeter who joined the church in 1929 as well when the Late Rev. D. Russell was Pastor.

Appreciation Awards were presented to Mrs. Dorothy Watson Thomas and Mr. Andrew Horne.

Dorothy Watson Thomas is the matriarch of W.A. Woods’ descendants.  W.A. Woods was one of the founders of Mount Hermon in 1906.  Mrs. Thomas’ family is still at Mount Hermon to date.

Andrew Horne is the last living of the eight Trustees who mortgaged their homes so the current Mt. Hermon structure could be built.
