By Sylvester “Nunnie” Robinson
The angelic solo voice of Mrs. Rosa Saulsby has been silenced after being summoned to her heavenly home on July 21, 2021, in Tacoma, Washington. Born in White Springs, Florida on July 14, 1927, Mrs. Saulsby recently celebrated her 94th birthday. She came to Fort Lauderdale with her parents, George and Hattie Newsome, and as the second oldest of ten siblings, shouldered many chores and responsibilities usually assigned to adults.
Mrs. Saulsby joined Mount Olive Baptist Church on April 22, 1951, under the pastorage of Rev. Robert H. Lee, immediately joined choir # 1, sang her first solo on the first Sunday in May 1951 and remained a fervent member, serving God with her melodic voice until her health failed.
Her service to God and Mount Olive coincided with every pastoral administration from Rev. Lee to Pastor Davidson. Her love for Christ and devotion to service are manifested in these eloquent words spoken by Mrs. Saulsby on June 14, 2013: “I will be 86 years old and plan to continue to do the Lord’s work until He calls me home.”
Her immediate family and New Mount Olive’s earthly loss is Heaven’s gain. To God be the glory!
