By Lt. Jill Brown, Navy Office of Community Outreach

JACKSONVILLE, FL – A Miramar, Florida, native is serving with the U.S. Navy’s cutting-edge maritime patrol and reconnaissance aircraft squadron in Jacksonville, Florida.

Chief Petty Officer Michael Chin joined the Navy 18 years ago. Today, Chin serves as a yeoman.
“I joined the Navy to challenge myself and do something different to get out of my comfort zone,” said Chin. “I got bored at home and saw the Navy recruiting posters with ships, and I said to myself, ‘I need to get there.’ I also had two uncles who served and had an impact on how my life turned out.”

Chin serves with Patrol Squadron Eight, a high-tech maritime patrol and reconnaissance squadron tasked with monitoring the world’s oceans in the state-of-the-art P-8A “Poseidon.”
