College football and the NFL have given fans throughout the country two weeks of excitement, for some incredible joy and elation, but for others gut-wrenching sadness based solely on the gameâs outcome. The Tennessee Volsâ heartbreaking home loss this past weekend to Georgia along with Notre Dameâs crushing defeat on the campus of Touchdown Jesus, courtesy of the Texas A&M Aggies, are poignant illustrations of stated premise. My interest in the “Fighting Irishâ is correlated to the success of that dynamic young coach, Marcus Freeman. Who of us would not root for his success. Yâall know where Iâm coming fromâŚ.
Our Dolphins are another story entirely. They allowed a still ascending but rebuilding team, the New England Patriots, to defeat them at the Hard Rock after the season opening road debacle in Indianapolis. At this point in the tenures of General Manager Chris Grier and Head Coach Mike McDaniel, this team should be competing for a division title. I believe they have 3 crucial concerns: ownership, management and personnel/coaching.
The allegations ( lying/racism) by former Dolphins coach Brian Flores, presently defensive coordinator of the Vikings, quietly went away. Flores was not enamored with Tua as Miamiâs answer at the quarterback position, believing that Deshaun Watson would have been a better fit. However, Watsonâs personal issues and injuries have mitigated that construct. I still believe the team would be in a better position to win if either Flores or Detroitâs Dan Campbell were the coach. Also, former defensive coordinator, Vic Fangio, I assume, had a philosophical difference with Coach McDaniel, leading to his transition to the Eagles, 2024 Super Bowl champions.
Calais Campbell had a game ending sack for the Arizona Cardinals just this weekend. Guess which team he played for last year. He gave the Dolphins a physical presence inside. It is well known that Tua isnât going to beat anyone with his legs, so being fully cognizant of that fact, where is the emphasis on improving the offensive line. I conjecture and perhaps I may be the only one who wonders why the Chiefs so readily traded a talent like Tyreek Hill. Perhaps it had to do with his precocious, immature persona , i. e., marital/legal concerns open for public consumption and scrutiny.
I conclude my comments about the Dolphins thusly: something just ainât right.
The Shedeur Sanders saga continues in Cleveland after the coach placed him on the inactive list while the team and Joe Flacco struggle, leaving the frustrated fans clamoring for Shedeur. Injuries to the quarterback position – the 49ersâ Brock Purdy, Vikings J J McCarthy, Commanders Jaden McDaniel, and Bengals Joe Burrow have taken center stage after only two weeks into the season.
In other pro sports, MLB, the Philadelphia Phillies have clinched the NL East Division while the Milwaukee Brewers have also secured a playoff spot. The other divisions and playoff contenders are proving to be competitive and intriguing.
The WNBA actual playoffs have begun so if opportunity presents itself, check them out. You wonât be disappointed.
Politically, the flag being flown at half staff or the insanity of Charlie Kirk being compared to MLK speaks to the insanity of this administration and his sycophants from SCOTUS to Congress. It is possible that Kirkâs murder may have political implications relative to a rift with 47 and the Epstein coverup. As long as this administration is in power, sports will be a welcomed sidekick only. We must remain vigilant and
