High school regional semifinals garnered the attention of myriad high school football fans in South Florida this past weekend. First, the Central Rockets’ rematch against the Norland Vikings didn’t disappoint as the Vikings won an overtime  thriller 31-28 in region 4-2M.   Playing in their fifth regional semifinal, the Vikings will host Jacksonville Bolles at Traz Powell Field.

After leading most of game, the Davie Western Wildcats succumbed to the relentless Columbus Explorers in Region 4-4M 31-13. One contest that I found intriguing was the St. Thomas Aquinas match verses Coconut Creek won by the Raiders win 28-0. With public high schools at a decided recruiting disadvantage, one speculates if a state run for schools like Blanche Ely, Coconut Creek. Stranahan, Piper et. al., is an exercise in futility. Trust me, people are cognizant of your efforts in overcoming insurmountable obstacles to achieve success. Other results: American Heritage defeated Cardinal Gibbons 47-35, Homestead won a close one over Miramar 22-17, surprising Monarch defeated Palm Beach Central 35-13, and Chaminade overpowered Cardinal Newman 40-0.  The Monarch Knights are the only Broward public school still in contention.
