Nunnie on the Sideline

There is a weekly podcast on Thursday  sponsored by the Westside Gazette titled “Two Minute Warning.” Co-hosted by publisher Bobby R. Henry, Sr., Perry Busby and David  Wright,  the podcast primarily focuses on addressing community concerns, providing pertinent information and support, and  developing solutions that enhance and improve the quality of life for the people who are often disenfranchised, marginalized and left out. Last week’s podcast singular guest was Joe Scott, Broward County Supervisor of Elections. His erudite elucidation of Voting Rights rules and proposed changes that would negatively impact minority voters or  vote by mail proponents espoused by DeSantis and a state government dominated by racists demagogues is worth viewing again. I only say this because, based on last week’s podcast, an intended  5 minute segment on current sports events was excluded  because of relevance and magnitude of subject matter. However, had time allowed, I would have spoken briefly about the retirement of iconic coaching legends Nick Saban, Pete Carroll, and Bill Belichick. One topic of interest to many, especially FAMU Rattlers, would have been the ongoing search for head football Willie Simmons’ replacement. My sources reveal that many are displeased with both the method and the proposed candidate of choice by athletic director Tiffany Dawn Sykes.  Apparently, the search was conducted in isolation by AD Sykes and the recommended candidate has no prior affiliation with Florida A&M. We’ll keep you abreast of internal and external machinations.

I also would have commented on Mrs. Rosalind Pinder’s efforts to honor her sister-in-law, legendary Dillard High coach Marcia Pinder with a statue befitting her accomplishments as the winningest girls’ basketball coach in Florida history.

My final commentary would have dealt with the crushing home defeat inflicted on our Miami Dolphins by the Bills. The loss placed them in the precarious position as a wildcard, forcing the team to travel to frigid Kansas City to play the defending Super Bowl champions Chiefs, and we all know how that turned out.
