One Lie Leads to Others

By Lucius Gantt

Before I was a columnist, I was a news reporter. I worked for major media companies in Atlanta, Washington, D.C., and New York City among other towns.

Any real media person can tell you; if you work for The Associated Press you must be accurate and first.

Black media owners always try to use “spell check” on Gantt Report columns to find a typo or punctuation error to suggest they have to “edit” my column.

I never say anything to newspaper editors but if a reader asks me about my writings, I refer them to the newspaper editors that changed the column and tell readers, “I didn’t write that”.

I am somewhat proud of my major media career because nothing I wrote for major media companies had to be “killed” for mistakes or any other wrongful depictions.

The very worst thing that happened to me was a “sub-intro” I had to do in an Atlanta Hawks game I covered. I said Lou Hudson scored 36 points in a Hawks win and I had to change the lead to, “Lou Hudson and Pete Maravich combined for 72 points…”.

Fox News is being sued for reporting lies about election results and I hope the company gets the punishment it deserves.

The attacks on Democracy, election integrity, and the rule of law were more than harmful to this country.

I write about politics and politicians all of the time but when I give my opinions, I opine based on facts.

Lucius Gantt doesn’t have a reputation as a liar but apparently, Fox News built a large viewership and a huge advertising base by pushing the limit on misdirection and misinformation.

Sometimes. “I’m sorry” is not enough. The truth hurts but lies can destroy.

I believe at one time; Fox News was a news organization with a conservative staff but things changed.

Most Republican politicians on federal, state, and local levels decided to ride with the cat-chasing, lying, and impeached former President of the United States.

Too many, but not all, Republican elected officials bowed down and sucked up to Trump because they felt he had a grip on conservative campaign contributors.

If Trump said an election was permeated with fraud, corruption, and stolen votes, it was repeated by conservative politicians and conservative media companies.

Politics and money are parallel. Where you find one, you will find the other.

“Good” Republicans, and there are some, didn’t need to be in a hurricane to tell which way the political winds in America were blowing. They knew U.S. elections were fair. They said that and many were voted out of office for telling the truth.

Other Republicans drank the kool-aide. Election deniers felt they had to support Trump and deny election results because they didn’t want Trump to endorse any primary election opponents that could easily defeat them.

Well, here we are. Fox News knows now they could possibly lose a $1.6 billion lawsuit filed by Dominion Voting Systems because Fox guests lied about Dominion’s voting machine’s election performances.

Fox could have settled the case but to do so the company would have to tell Fox viewers that they had been broadcasting election lies for years.

A settlement could still be negotiated before a trial begins but I’d like to know why. One lie always leads to another.

I and The Gantt Report will stay in our lane, hard, fair, and honest!

Unlike uncle Clarence Thomas, the most conservative Supreme Court justice, As a newsman, my views do not align with Fox News guests and hosts.
