The Girl Choir of South Florida Join Forces with Florida Singing Sons

    Submitted by Kay Renz

Pompano Beach Cultural Center is delighted to present the inaugural Unity Concert featuring The Girl Choir of South Florida and the Florida Singing Sons. Both organizations will feature their most advanced ensembles, separately and in collaboration, performing a varied program consisting of classic favorites, as well as more modern repertoire. This combination of choral forces will be a testament to the remarkable abilities and artistry of Florida’s young vocal musicians. The performance is Saturday, April 30, 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $25 for general admission, $20 for seniors, veterans, and Pompano Beach residents, and $15 for students (17 and under). “We are honored to give center stage to this extraordinary collaborative event,” said Phyllis Korab, Cultural Affairs Director. “We know our audience will be thrilled by the immense talent and creative range of these gifted young musicians.”

    Girl Choir

The Girl Choir of South Florida is the premier singing ensemble for girls and young women ages 6 through 18. They are the only not-for-profit all girl choir organization in South Florida and tour internationally, blending a multitude of cultures through the experience of voice. The Girl Choir, led by Artistic Director Sylvia Aycock, has been extolled by South Florida Sun-Sentinel as “imaginative, accessible, expressive, and entertaining,” and has gained a reputation for delivering compelling concert programming. The Girl Choir’s repertoire is broad, from ancient to modern, classical to popular, sacred to secular, and folk to Broadway. Since the choir was founded, the Girl Choir has commissioned and premiered works by noted choral composers, including Eleanor Daley, Bob Chilcott, and David Brunner. The Girl Choir presents concerts at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts and as part of many concert series throughout South Florida.

    Singing Sons

Florida Singing Sons has been delighting South Florida, national and international audiences since it was founded in 1975. Members of Florida Singing Sons dedicate themselves to a rigorous program that results in university-level musicianship skills, understanding of vocal pedagogy and choral techniques, and in life-changing personal growth and development. Performing a wide variety of choral literature from secular choral classics to folk music and musical theater, Florida Singing Sons participates in summer festivals, alternating between domestic and international tours, and have appeared with organizations such as Miami Bach Society, Florida Grand Opera, and the New World Symphony. Florida Singing Sons is an avid proponent of strengthening music education in South Florida and has a vested interest in cultivating arts-aware youth to be the leaders of tomorrow.

Pompano Beach Cultural Center is located at 50 West Atlantic Boulevard, Pompano Beach.
