When we think about power, most of us immediately think of lights turning on, homes being cooled, and businesses running smoothly. But real power—transformational power—goes beyond kilowatts and wires. It looks like compassion. It feels like connection. And it moves like community.
That’s the kind of power I’ve seen firsthand in Florida Power & Light (FPL). For years, FPL has quietly done more than just deliver electricity—they’ve energized hope, uplifted families, and invested in the neighborhoods where we live, work, worship, and raise our children.
Power to Care is more than a slogan—it’s a calling.
Through this initiative, FPL employees roll up their sleeves, get in the trenches, and serve with heart. Whether it’s feeding the hungry, supporting disaster relief, or showing up to help families bounce back after hardship, they’re not just checking boxes—they’re changing lives. I’ve seen it. I’ve felt it. And I stand as one of many who can say: when the community needs a hand, FPL shows up.
FPL understands that the best ideas don’t always come from boardrooms—they rise from barbershops, pulpits, PTA meetings, and living rooms. That’s why they’ve worked to build genuine relationships with community leaders, clergy, and changemakers. They’re not just interested in powering cities—they’re invested in empowering people.
As a 2-time NBA world champion, faith leader and proud Floridian, I don’t partner lightly. But when I see a company using its platform to elevate others, I pay attention. When I see them partnering with purpose, I speak up. FPL isn’t perfect—no company is. But they are committed. And in this season, where trust is earned and not assumed, their commitment matters.
So to those wondering whether the corporate world and community values can coexist, I offer this: Yes, they can. And FPL is proving it every day. Together, let’s keep the lights on—not just in our homes, but in the hearts of our communities.
