Professor parlays her academic skill into a $10 million dollar per year empire

    Dr. Boyce Watkins

Garnett Newcombe has al-ways specialized in people.

The former professor of sociology would eventually use her expertise to launch what has become a successful business in the field of workplace solutions.

In 1997, Newcombe and her sister, Joyce Keener launched Human Potential Consultants (HPC) a company that specializes in helping people find jobs. According to the company website, HPC began as a government resource to provide comprehensive employment solutions for individuals classified as having extra-ordinary challenges with re-entering the workforce.

Newcombe’s vision was to help those specific groups which included disabled individuals, 17- to 25-year-olds and those on probation and parole to find jobs.  Her help is much-needed in communities where mass incarceration has hurt families and their ability to provide for themselves.
