What does Reverend Deal say?

Question: Is there anything in the Holy Scriptures pertaining to DEATH?

Answer: Scripture contains many references on the subject of death.  Jesus equated Lazarus’s death with sleep, and that He would go and awaken Lazarus out of sleep (John 11:11); and in The Book of Daniel 12:2, God said that’ Multitudes who sleep in the dust of the earth will awake…’  The Scriptures speak of three kinds of death: (1) physical death (2) spiritual death (3) and the second or eternal death.

  1. Physical Death.

Physical death is the separation of the soul from the body and establish the transition from the visible world to the invisible. For the believers in the gospel this is the entrance into paradise and more importantly, into the presence of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:1, 8); for the unbeliever death is an entrance into hades/hell (Luke 16:22, 23; Mt 10:28; Rev 20:13).

  1. Spiritual Death.

Spiritual death is separation from God, both in this world and the world to come. Adam died as a result of his disobedience from a warning of God,’ for in the day that thou eat thereof thou shall surely die’ (Genesis 2:17). This was a spiritual death for Adam. Although, Adam was alive in the physical realm he suffered a spiritual separation from God.

  1. Eternal Death.

When those die physically and unrepentant they enter into the state of eternal death. Eternal death or the ‘second death’ is an everlasting punishment. The bible speaks about the final “Great White Throne Judgment” where all the wicked dead or all unbelievers will be cast into the lake of fire (Revelation 20:13-15).
