Spady Museum’s New Board Slate Also Announced at sold-out event

DELRAY BEACH, FL– The Spady Cultural Heritage Museum welcomed more than 300 guests to its signature 2023 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Brunch.
Held January 16, 2023, at Indian Springs Country Club, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Brunch featured speakers Isaac Lane, pastor of St. John Primitive Baptist Church; Verdenia Baker, Palm Beach County Administrator; Daniyah Straghn, a ninth-grade student from Atlantic Community High School; and a performance by the St. John Primitive Baptist Church Praise Team.
Dr. Barbara Carey-Shuler was honored with an award for her service to the community, including her 11-year term serving on the museum’s Board of Trustees. Carey-Shuler is a local philanthropist, business owner, and former longtime educator and elected official in Florida.
Former Delray Beach Police Chief Javaro Sims was also honored with a community service award. Sims recently retired after a 26-year career in law enforcement. Museum Director Charlene Farrington shared Sims’ meaningful impact as a mentor with local teens.
The museum also announced its new Board slate at the Brunch. Its new officers are
Elizabeth Burrows, president; Stacey Copeland; first vice president; Nancy Chanin, second vice president; Adelina Ruiz Baez, secretary; and Colleen Rhodd, treasurer.
