“Spitting in the face of God: Preachers of LA”

    By Pastor Rasheed Z Baaith

“Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my Name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision, and divination, and a thing of naught, and the deceit of their heart.” (Jeremiah 14:14)

“The prophets prophesy falsely and the priests take into their hands by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will be the end thereof?”

It seems it is not enough that almost every time we turn around some preacher is being accused of moral failings or of stealing his church’s money or of compromising the Word of God for the sake of popularity. Now we have a group of Pastors who believe their God is money and being immoral in character is acceptable in the Eyes of God. The “reality” TV Show “Preachers of LA” shows all the reasons people hold the Pastorate in great contempt.

It is a show about a group of pastors/preachers who display their money, clothes, jewelry, houses, cars, women/wives and homes with a complete lack of modesty or humbleness. Their arrogance and pretentiousness is both blatantly unmistakable even through the television.  How much money, how many cars and how many clothes do these people need? What about the content of what they say: as my ten year old daughter said after listening to one of the preachers, “That is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.” Amen to that.

TD Jakes warned pastors about having a “Hollywood spirit.” He and Noel Jones, one of the show’s participants, are very good friends, and I wonder why he didn’t tell Jones. One of the other pastors is white which may be a good thing because it lets everyone know church corruption comes in all colors and ethnicities.

God through Christ Jesus has allowed these men to fill the pews of their churches, put food on their tables in good times and bad, and secure their families. In return they have decided to disrespect His Holy Word, insult the intelligence of church folk and libel the Pulpit. They have decided on life style that denies the essential character of Christ which is humility. Yet Christ is the God they claim to follow. Even worse these false prophets espouse the belief that the power of their flesh is greater than the Power of the Holy Spirit when it comes to debauched behavior.  As one of them said, he was after being a pastor, “a man.”

Still as much as these men are reprehensible in what they do or what they believe, those who follow them and take pride in their behavior and like those they are following, they too are spitting in the Face of God. It is all too obvious that while they are reading the Word of God, they do not believe it. The Bible is clear about false teachers: “Of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with diver’s lusts, ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.” (2 Tim. 3:6) and “For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.”

Compare the behavior of “Preachers of LA” to Pastor Alan Stewart of Tennessee. Pastor Stewart is under fire from the Free From Religion Foundation for mentioning God in an address to middle and high school students. I think Pastor Stewart needs his own reality show; it would at least be quality viewing.

Which is more than anyone can say about the blasphemy being served up on “Preachers of LA.”  Just think about it.
