STATEMENT: Senator Janet Cruz on Governor Ron DeSantis’ Unconstitutional Voucher Plan

Today, State Senator Janet Cruz released the following statement on Governor Ron DeSantis’ plan to use FEFP general revenue funding to create a new voucher program:

“Ron DeSantis’ education proposal is nothing more than an unconstitutional attempt to destroy our public school system and force Florida taxpayers to pay for a voucher program. Let’s be clear: this plan would illegally funnel FEFP money to private, unaccountable, for-profit entities — something the Florida Supreme Court has already ruled is unconstitutional. Our schools are suffering from crumbling facilities, a growing teacher shortage, and chronic underinvestment. We need a massive investment in our public schools — not an illegal voucher scheme that will gut public education funding and jeopardize our kids’ future.”
