Student researchers to present abstracts at 39th annual meeting and scientific sessions of the society of behavioral medicine

    By Ursula James

Congratulations to Erica Anderson, Warren Feaster and Courtney Peterson, whose abstracts have been selected for inclusion in the 39th Annual Meeting and Scientific Sessions of the Society of Behavioral Medicine (SBM), April 11 – 14, 2018, at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside in New Or-leans. The SBM is a multidisciplinary organization of clinicians, educators, and scientists dedicated to promoting the study of the interactions of behavior with biology and the environment, and then applying that knowledge to improve the health and well-being of individuals, families, communities, and populations.

    Warren Feaster

The students’ research, overseen by Dr. Bridgett Rahim-Williams, professor/associate dean for research in the Petrock College of Health Sciences, focuses on chronic pain management, physical activity, health disparities and women’s health.

“B-CU continues to train minority health disparities researchers whose work is being recognized nationally and internationally,” said Dr. Bridgett Rahim-Williams.

    Courtney Peters

The students’ abstracts, “The Social Construction and Language of Pain Among Women Managing Knee Osteoarthritis Pain,” (Erica Anderson), “BMI, Self-efficacy, and Physical Performance as Risk factors for Pain Among Individuals with Knee Osteoarthritis (OA),” (Warren Feaster) and “Examining Perceptions of Knee Joint Replacement and Physical Activity Among Women with Knee Osteoarthritis(OA),” (Warren Feaster) and “Examining Perceptions of Knee Joint Replacement and Physical Activity Among Women with Knee Osteoarthritis (OA): DAPPA STUDY” (Courtney Peters), will be published in the Society of Behavioral Medicine’s annual meeting program booklet.
